I have a 2001 Mercury 40 ELPT outboard on my pontoon boat. I sucked up some mud in the water intake. The engine runs, it doesn't overheat but no water is coming out of the water vent (pisshole). I tried unplugging the hole, but still no water. I took the end of the hose off and blew through it. Air flows through without any obstruction. Any suggestions?

Might have to take the bottom portion off and deplug with a garden hose

Tis the season... notice all the other posts about it right now. Water's cold and so is the air. You should at least get a dribble out the tell tale from the vent holes in the thermostats. You might want to pull the therms and clean them out.

You might even get steam this time of year. I did yesterday and barely broke 130 all day.

FYI, if you sucked mud it might just as well have been sand paper where the water pump is concerned. You should change your impeller.
