Yeah, me too. I thought all the aussie v6's where 7 digit (no letters) although I do have a big gap in the list, 1980's.
I have found the receptionist at the old mercury factory in Dandenong very helpful in the past, they have complete aussie listings and are happy to oblige.
Hi Chris, I'm north of Sydney trying to attach pics but keeps saying "upload failed"

Only people who have white anchors call Mercs 'black anchors'....
The V6 150hp engines are great.... Yours is getting a bit old now, but in their day they were unbeatable... literally...
I would take a well maintain black anchor any day.....
Attaching pics... you have a maximum size of about 146k for JPGs... If your pic is bigger than that, get a program called Pixresizer, and reduce them.... If you send a pic of the cowl we can get a reasonable idea of the era.
Ok, your serial number is without the A, so it's 8060748. And by my reckoning that puts it at about 1978. If we could have a side on picture of the engine covers that would help....
Yep, that's late 70's cowl decals. 1979 by this website... http://www.nymarine.ca/mercdeclist.html Click on 1979 and the '150' model and you'll see the decals...
I just checked the links on Mercury model years and it came up as 1985?
Just got the boat but need a transom before it hits the water.
It has only been used 2 times in the last 4 years and the water flow from the tell tale isnt to good. Came with a new impellor.
Achris is correct as its a 79 year and it should have the trim pump inside the boat and the control box will have a "trailer" button on it, the 1985 will have the trim in the clamp brackets. Very good engine but sometimes hard to start as it has the choke butterflys and some had the fine tooth flywheel which spun a little slow, so a good battery is high on the list.
yes it does have the "trailer" button, the origional owner didnt have a clue about it. Does it tilt the motor fully up? Seems strange the serial No. come up as 1985 on every site I've seen.
I think the boat (Haines Hunter V17R) is a '78 so it makes sense.
