Just curious if anybody knew the weight of this beast off the top of their head.

You really think it's that light?

The 80's 9.8 mercs seem to be 65, according to the forum, and I've handled an 80's Johnson 9.9 (reportedly 75 lb) and it seemed noticeably lighter than my '57 10 hp merc.

I always assumed that this motor was ridiculously heavy compared to the 70's/80's + models. My '57 is a long shaft, but I think they all were.

Any other reports?

well all i could compare to was a 1975 110 (9.8hp) and they were 65-70 lbs so yours could be a few lbs heavier

I'm looking to get a new motor. I've found that the Mark 10 is too heavy for my boat. Seems to be weakening the transom area on the boat when I travel with it and keeps it really low in the water. Trying to figure out what I'm able to work with.

A Mark 10?

Aren't they the auto tranny motors? If so they don't use a normal dog-clutch type shifting mechanism but rather a complex planetary gearset and dual spring setup. Not only are they fairly heavy for their size but they are not for the faint of heart when it comes to maintainance/replacement of the waterpump. There are folks out there who swear by them (and at them) because of their "unique" engineering.

Unless you are a Mercury enthusiast willing to tackle the this motor as a project and want to learn its nuances I would suggest you find it a good home and search out something a little more conventional.

I manned up and weighed it myself.

For anybody wanting to know, it weighed just under 80 lb. It was on a bathroom scale so don't quote me to the pound.
