S/S, A long shaft transom is approximately 20".
If you were measuring along the actual transom slant it would be slightly longer than measured at right angle to the bottom. If you measure your outboard I think you will find it to be about 17" from mount to the antivent plate just above the prop.

I agree 100%.

This may help others in determining their transom to motor shaft ratio.

Here's a follow-up question: If all motors are made at either 15 or 20 inches, why do boat manufacturers make transoms at any other length? It seems dumb to make a boat for a 15" motor but make the transom 16.5" or same for a long-shaft, a 22" transom made for a 20" motor shaft.

I had this problem on an old Fisher and had to build a custom motor mount to raise the motor up two inches. What a pain.
