Gidday.

Hey I was wondering if anyone would know what the correct compression for a 1997 Eninrude 40hp 2cyl oil injected outboard should be.

The motor has done about 200 hours apparently.

I'm getting 99 on 1 cylinder and 98 on the other. This is when the motor is cold.

Are there any other tips you can give me??? I have read about decarbing too on this page... Would this help possibly?

Cheers,

Matt.

guages read differently, test are done differently. the real thing is you want the readings with in 10% of each other. i would say you have a healthy motor, but a decarb is over due. decarb every 100 hours.

go to the TOP SECRET FILE 1st thread in the J/E forum, read JB's compression testing.

G'day, skankykiwi.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Your compression is just fine, Matt.

There is no published spec on the psi, but anything near or over 100psi is good.

The important part is that all cylinders need to fall into a range less than 10%. . .10psi in your case. You have that nailed.

Kia ora!

Choice guys... Ka pai (Thanks very much) from all the way down here in Wellington(Poneke), New Zealand (Aotearoa).

I never expected to get such a quick response....

This is the little unit I have brought...

My first ever boat. To those of you in the States... Yeah it seems like a lot of money for such a wee boat... But living out here we are held hostage by high prices for not much.

Thanks again for all you help.

Chur,

Matt.
