Currently looking at a 1991 Chaparral 1800 SL Limited with 3.0L. It looks almost perfect conidition. New to inboards and Chaparral. Im concerned about the price for its age. They want $7,500. What's your opinion?

Although I think NADA pricing is rediculously low...I agree that for an 18' boat with a 3.0 it sounds kind of high.

I have also found a 91 Bryant 180 with 4.3L v6. It's only $5,600. Which is a better boat for this age? More power but more fuel cost also I assume.

the 3.0 will be a dog, the 4.3 will give you reasonable performance. 4.3 all the way. fuel will be about the same, as the 3.0 has to work much harder.

I don't agree about the 3.0. I have a 1987 rinker v180 and it does good. Unless you are hallin lots of people it would be fine

my load would never be more than 4 adults and 2 kids. aprox 600 lbs plus gear and fuel. im concerned on this age boat the 3.0 will be in less shape than the 4.3 due to load on the small engine over the years. the bryant with the 4.3 is about 500 lbs more than the chaparral with the 3.0. surely the bryant is gonna use more fuel w/ that weight even though it has more power. i wont be skiing, only tubing and maybe kneeboarding. its mostly a runabout for the kids. any more thoughts?

This 4.3 and 3.0 debate has been had on this site many times.

Tashdaddy's answer is short and to the point. He's answered this one many times. Auto45 can back this up with some nice graphics on the fuel consumption between the 3.0 and 4.3.

Use your search option and do some reading.

4.3 !

yeah, didnt mean to get into a 4.3 and 3.0 debate but im researching it now. any feedback on the Bryant boat quality? I know Chaparral is great but for the diference in price, leaning towards the Bryant.

No worries...the debate can go on forever.

Do you have some links of the boats? Pictures go along way here. :D

I have a 1990 Chap SL and I can tell you the deck and seat bases are plywood. Don't know about the Bryant. Molded fiberglass decks are best.

Had some rot around the ski locker, they never sealed edges, also same rot around the fuel assess hatch, no sealed edges.
