When I shift into reverse the motor often stalls. Then once I get it to go in reverse and try to shift back to nuetral, I have to move the lever forward past where I should have to in order to get it to go into nuetral. In other words, it kinda gets 'stuck' in reverse and I have to push the throttle lever past the 'neutral' position to get it out of reverse. I'm guessing this needs some kind of adjustment and wonder if i can do it myself.

thanks,

Cowboy: Here is what it was on my two 175 2000 fichts. The shifting rod linkage down under your silencer was corroded. As I remember there was a horizotal rod and a verticle rod that went down to the lower end. I disconected it ... De-Bured it of corrotion, greased it and put it back together. What was happening is shifting was hard, you had to go beyond forward or reverse to get your desired shift, So clean it up with a wire round brush connected to your drill and grease it up. The next thing that will break is going to be your shifter cable (s) so go ahead and buy them now. There are two types ... a $40 one and a $70 one. Guess which you should buy? That'll fix it, I am certain.
