I am currently looking to buy a used pontoon boat. Most of the one's I have found have motors not allowed on my 9.9 restriction lake. I have a nice 4 stroke 9.9 to put on whatever I buy. Will I need to convert this to a long shaft? If so, is this a difficult or expensive process? - While I'm at it where can I find a decent pontoon boat for under 3K?

You will very likely need to have a long shaft motor. Don't know of any pontoons that run efficiently with short shaft motors. Change the lower unit and sell the one you have. You find a 3000 pontoon by reading newspaper ads, checking grocery store bulletin boards, craigs list, e-bay, local dealers. Finding "good" $3000 pontoons requires lots of looking and luck.

It needs to be a long shaft. Learned the hard way. BTW I sent you a PM.
