Mercury 7.5 hp

I have a mercury 7.5 hp serial # 9443989. I believed it to be a 1986 but my dealer says it is an 1974, I need to find new gears that are in the tiller which operates the throttle cables so I need to find the correct age to see if this is available, I am desperate. Please help!

Your 7.5 was the 693rd engine built in Belguim in 1986.
