Re: Outdrive leg?
The outdrive is seized up due to being left in the water. It is an OMC 3.0L 4 cylinder. It has a rebuilt starter, alternator. The boat was fired up 2 months ago, and ran well. The husband is in FL, and will be back tomorrow. I talked with the wife. She said the motor was loud, had no smoke, and ran well when started.
The boat is a 1986 Bayliner Capri with an Escort galvanized trailer with new tires. The boat is in good shape. It has been covered with a cover, and under a carport. It has a fiberglass floor. The carpet is in good condition. The seats will beed to be upholstered. They have small cracks in them. They said the boat was 18 in the ad.
It needs a thermostat housing too. They want $700 for the boat, and seem like really nice people who lived in a nice neighborhood. They have another boat that they use, and don't want this one. They specified they want it to go to a nice family who will appreciate it.
They said fixed up it could be worth $4,500. Does that sound right? I didn't think they were worth more than $3,000 fixed up. Not that it matters too much as no plans for resale right now. It matters in terms that I don't want to put more money into it than what it is worth.
I haven't bought it yet. The husband said he knew a boat shop close to me that had the part for $500. He said it was cheaper now due to it being winter. The man seemed to know what he was talking about when it came to the boat, but he is the seller who wants to sell it.
Now about the outdrive. I have the model number as I took a pic of it. Are there any outdrives that are interchangeable from different engines? What are some special tools that are required to put a new outdrive on?
As always appreciate everyone's honest opinions as you taught me to run from the 470.
EDITED : to add this is the exact boat that I saw today

The seats are cracked, and the carpet looks like it needs a cleaning. The carpet is just dirty in a few spots not bad.
