You will need to contact MotorGuide with the serial number/model number so they can advise which FOB or foot pedal you need. These are essentially radios and since specific frequencies are involved, the transmitters will need to match the motors. As for a dimmer switch to control things, the answer is no. You need several functions 1) on/off, 2) speed (fast to slow either switched or variable), and then there is right and left steering. This is all electrically controlled and to build something would cost as much as the regular control Once you determine what's needed, check E-bay.
