Just wanted to share how I solved mounting a downrigger, ball buddies, a couple of rod holder flush mounts all above the useless space called an outboard well on my 1972 Glasply runabout...

I used aluminum angle for mounts and 1 x 5 composite deck material with all stainless steel fasteners. I used my 6 year old son (55lbs) to determine strength of the completed project. He is able to jump up and down with very little deflection so I feel it's pretty sound. I also hung a 15 lb weight from the downrigger with the boom fully extended and was pleased that the only movement was in the Scotty swivel mount...

The deck is also deep enough due to the extra space on the port side to accomodate stacking a few crab pots when the season opens up. I just need to add a couple of stainless steel footman loops so I can lash them down...

Hope this idea helps someone else in the future who is in a similar situation...
