Mercrusier v8 outdrive

I am posting for a friend, His boat has a Mercrusier v8 (chev 350) outdrive, It has gone bad, and needs a new one. Is it possible to convert it to a Volvo outdrive? We have a Volvo v8 drive off a bayliner in good working order, will this work at all?

gonna need more details...... a volvo what? what are you trying to replace? outdrive engine or everything?

Nope,... Not unless you plan on changing EVERYTHING from the v-belt to the prop....

I suggest you investigate the SEI aftermarket drives available here at iboats...

anything is possible... but is it smart to do - probably not. even if you have every single part you need, if you put any value on your time and labor, it would probably be much more attractive to get a new sei drive (replacement) for the existing set-up as Bond-O suggests...

I agree totally. Use the proceeds from the Volvo drive sale to partially offset the cost of an SEI 106 (Alpha One replacement) or SEI 116 (Alpha One Gen 2 replacement) drive, which are $1195 and $1395 respectively.

well if they have everything as bondo mentioned and it's an sx or dp... or a volvo badged cobra it will go in the existing cutout.... on the other hand it would be worth way more money than the $300 a used merc outdrive can be bought for
