When running wide open throttle (tiller, short shaft) I get an occasional hiccup. Don't know what else to call it... thought at first I had hit something. If I back off the throttle slightly, it ceases, but if I open up all the way again, it resumes. Is it anything that could damage the engine? How can I fix it?

My experience with high speed problems like that is a misfiring sparkplug. A cheap way to start your troubleshooting would be to replace them regardless and go from there.
