Re: Differences between PL's

PL premium polyurethane adhesive is a construction glue. Its allot like Liquid nail. Its normally used in building construction. Some folks, including me, use it as a bedding compound for stringers.

3M 5200 is specifically designed for marine use. It is used for "bedding", but in a different way. It can also be used as a marine caulk or as an adhesive. 5200 is generally used to seal fittings and thru-hulls. It is also good for sealing major components that go under water. PL is not suitable for that.

3M 4200 is just like 5200 but it is considered a removable bond where 5200 is considered permanent.

FYI, PL Concrete crack and Mortar sealer is a poor man's alternative to 3m 5200.. its ingredients are identical, and it holds about as well as 4200 or sometimes 5200 depending on application.

The only down side is the color... it comes in gray or brick red, not white.
