Hi,

I'm a newbie from Bonnie Scotland and I've just bought a 1996 Seahorse 4hp model number BJ4BREDS.
Can anybody advise as to the oil/gas mix ratio.
Is this a nice dependable motor ? and is there anything to watch out for ?
Any assistance gratefully received

Re: Johnson Seahorse 4hp

50 :1 is the correct fuel mix. Using ordinary unleaded petrol and an outboard 2 stroke engine oil to TCW3 specification

All Johnson and Evinrude 2 strokes from 1964 onwards should be run on 50:1 including any produced in 1985 and the following few years that were originally said to be suitable for 100:1

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/About.Us/FAQ/Oil.Fuel.htm

Gear case oil : any high viscosity outboard gear oil, around sae 85W or 90

Plugs: Champion QL86C gapped at 0.030"

Mostly to do with bigger engines but worth a quick read if you dont know too much about its history

A nice, dependable motor. Yes, with decent care.

That is descended from the greatest outboards ever made, the legendary JWs. Treat her with appropriate respect.
