Prevent water line growth?

Folks,
I have a 35' houseboat on a lake in Az. The boat has only been in the water 5 months, and has a really nice build up of green junk.

1) Is there a good reason to clean this stuff off? Will it hurt anything to just leave it on there?

2) Is the pressure washer, AC Coil cleaner the best way to clean them?

3) Once clean, is there anything that will prevent the growth from coming back?

Thanks in advance.

I bought a little deck brush and when we anchor to swim, I hop out and give the bottom a little "how's yer father" with the deck brush. It's usually the most exercise I get with the boat, but it keeps us both in shape.

And I agree that using it will cut that down quite a bit. At 35' I assume it's in a marina, like mine. Mine usually has some schmutz on it if we don't go anywhere for a week or so, but after I drive it a little it's mostly gone.
