I removed the the transom I.D. plate and transom cap on my 12' tinny on order to replace the transom wood and in the process I have damage a few of the little stainless nail/rivet things. They are about 1" long or so, have a rounded head like a rivet and have a twist to them. Are they rivets or nails and where can I get more? Or can I/should I use something else? (like little screws or something)

I've been googling and ain't found nuttin'

Thanks!

Re: those little stainless nail thingys…

I've always known them to be called compression screws. I'm sure that's not the proper name for them but to answer your question yes you can replace with regular S.S. screws.

Not sure of the spelling but they sound like 'kalon' rivets.
Hope this helps!

Here's a [crappy] pic with a quarter for scale.

Looks like a nail to me but I've never seen nails like these before.

Nails much like these are used in the flooring business to secure the metal transitions between tow dis-similar materials; i. e. tile to carpet/wood. Menards, Home depot, or Lowes has them. I'm not sure of the material, some are aluminum.

Maybe try a woodworkers supply or cabinet builders supply?

Those are called spiral shank escutcheon pins. Unless you're going into a hardwood you don't really need the spiral shank.

That's it!

Now if I can only find them in small quantities in SS?

Thanks for the help!
