Re: 1988 175 johnson no ldle & misfiring
Any engine will sneeze/cough when first cold started. Pushing in on the key every few seconds will provide extra fuel during the warmup period, assisting the Fast Start feature on your engine. When warmed up, an engine should not sneeze during normal operation. It can occasionally sneeze (cough) if the carb idle circuits have dried fuel/debris in them. If it runs ok when throttled up just above idle when it is getting fuel from the other jets, then it is probably the idle circuits. These idle circuits are the only way fuel gets into the engine when at dead idle and the throttle butterflys are closed. If this is your problem, you are looking at carb overhauls.
