My friends mid 80's 70 hp runs fine for about 15 min, then quits and has no fire on any cyl.
Sounds like the power pack to me.
Am I on the right track?

Probably, if you have a DVA adapter i'd test it before throwing away over a hundred bucks on a guess.

While you are there, replace your thermostat. I had a 75, 70 hp with a thermostat that started hanging up and finally froze shut. It would operate fine for the first few minutes then run and idle rough. Finally one day, I was doing 40 mph and the engine just siezed. Cost me an engine overhaul. I realize the thermostat has nothing to do with spark, but it may in that if the pulse module(s) get hot they may quit working and a stuck closed thermostat will surely heat up the block to which they are usually connected for heat sinking purposes.
