Timing and point gap question

I have a 1972 Merc 9.8hp model 110. I had a friend of mine who is a Johnson Evinrude freak help me diagnose a non running engine problem. He really didnt seem to understand the ignition system, but a simple ohm test found the switchbox/module to be bad. I have it on order and will be here soon. While we were tinkering with the ignition system we cleaned the points and such. I just wanted to check the timing of the engine when I put the new switchbox in. Can anyone just give me a basic run through on the timing procedure for this engine? Thanks,

D

So there should be a .02 gap when the engine is 34 degrees before TDC? Is that at WOT or idle?
