Installed Tach worked then stopped running 85 115hp J

I had a Polaris tach in my shop I installed on my 85 115HP Johnson J115MLCOS (eng ran good) took it out got it up running - Tach was working then all of a sudden Tach stopped working & eng quite running! Thought it was the Elect fuel pump but its not fuel - Any ideas what installing that Tach could have screwed up? What kind of Tach can I insta& where do I hook it up? My Tach hookup was on the 3wire plugin gray/black/purple in the dash. Now it attemps to run but spits/sputters - compressions all good 4x135lbs! The reason I installed the Tach is I wanted to X RPMs @ FTH with a new prop on the boat! Any idea where the man Valve needs to point on the Primer Solinoid (0582865) on this boat? Thanks Lar

Sounds like ignition went out on you, get the manual and test for spark,
needs to jump 7/16th inch gap, you can't test it with a sparkplug, get a spark gap tester from any auto store, cheap.

Tach reads the pulse from the rectifier, if rectifier goes south it can stop the engine from running, although the engine can run without the rectifier, so try disconnecting it and run off the battery, if spark returns replace rectifier.

Do get the service manual though.

Thanks Cap : I do have the manual - Would that polaris Tach have caused it? Ill X the RegRec tomarrow + spark
