Engine Alignment / Adjustment

Need a bit of advice guys.

Ok, so I'm installing two new Mercruiser 5.7 357 Magnums, in a twin screw Chaparral. The starboard side engine went well, and had no issues getting it to align properly.

The port engine seems to be a different matter. The alignment bar only goes into the coupler about half way, and has grease marks on the top of the bar when pulled out. This tells me I need to go down on the front of the engine, but I have adjusted it down as far as it will go... :( I have adjusted the gimbal bearing with a rubber mallet and it seems to be ok and makes no difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Re: Engine Alignment / Adjustment

The fellow where I bought the engines, suggested I remove the front mount lag screws and move the front of the engine side to side to see if the tool will then go in all the way. I did this and I can now get the tool in all the way, but it is definately still too tight, and the grease marks are not even all the way round. [more on top]

Any other ideas?

Did you change rear mounts in that engine?

Added a washer under each mount. Problem solved. ;)
