Almost done with the break in. Rich smoke from one side and a smal oil leak.

So, I recently installed my 350 mag longblock repower. I have about 9 and half hours on it and I have two problems.
1. The starbrd bank of the engine will smoke ( like rich fuel smoke) when I rev it up to about 1500 or more. Both banks gas when I am at 3000 or so more for a little while then it cleans up. What would cause this. I have a q jest carb and she idels great @ 675 no stumble. I would imagine it can't be the idle mix because it does run so rich until above idle circiut. Am I look at rejeting?

2. I have a small oil leak coming from the back of the intake manifold. I thought it was the sender ( turned out to be a loose conection) So the oil leaks only under load and it seems to be coming from the seal between the block and manifold. I used rv and did not use the little gaskets between these surfaces. Is this right ? Maybe my bead wasn't thick enough.

Other then that she runs and shifts awesome. Thanks for every ones help through the repower.

after doing some research it would seem the smoke is steam ( is disapates quickly) and kinda makes sense because the side it comes from runs a little hotter on muffs.

If when you put the manifold on you put the gaskets on then ran a bead of silicone on the block up the gasket. You almost got it right. I learned a long time ago to run the bead up the head then put the gaskets into the silicone and apply a little more on top of the gasket corner. If the gasket rides down the head a little and Bridges the gap between the head and block (as Most gaskets do) without silicone under the gasket it will seep oil especially when run hard. It is a simple fix to a real headache.

Also make sure you clean the block and manifold with brake clean on a rag so it is free of oil. Ant oil will cause the silicone to not stick to either part and that will seep oil as well.
