I have a chance to buy a very nice 84 20ft cuddy with a 485 mercuiser for $600.00. The engine serial number is #6040457. It needs a flywheel. Does anyone know what models are interchangable? I'm having trouble finding a flywheel. Will a 470 work, or do I need to have a 485? I could change the ring gear, but I'm not sure where to look. any help would be greatfull.

Pretty sure a 72 Maverick fits if you could even find one. Any flywheel from that family will fit 470-488 types but why not just change the ring rear?

I have thought about changing the ring gear. Just didn't know if there was a special application that would be difficult to find. Will a 72 Maverick ring gear work?

It should, these use a Ford small block flywheel, just count the teeth to be sure.'nutcase
