I need a new starter for my 73 140HP (S/N 2913009) and was thinking of putting on a smaller gear reduction starter, similar to the ones used on the newer 3.0's. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about swapping to the smaller starter?
This is the one I'm thinking of getting, compatible as a swap to the older 140 starters.

I don't know how the heck I did it, but when I was putting the nut on the start lug of the solenoid it just spun, and spun and spun, stripped it out, didn't even get tight,,, Grrrr. I figure since I need to buy a $30 solenoid I might as well replace the whole starter,,, and while I'm at it get a smaller gear reduction style.
Last thing, does anyone have a pic of the bracket that attaches to the back of the starter, so I can fab one up, I doubt it comes with the starter.
Thanks, Dan
