I have a 1984 evinrude v4 140. It came with a two props. A 13 3/4 - 15 and a 14 - 17. What will be different putting the 14-17 on? Thanks

Going from a 15 to 17 will add a little speed and take away a little hole shot. This is all things being equal in a perfect world.
You will just have to try them to see which one suits you best.

I ran the 13.75 x 15 on a 87 Rude 140 and it worked great. It was on a 87 ProLine 21 WAC(heavy boat). WOT rpms were 5800-5900. Going to 17 will also decrease your WOT rpms too.

You want to use the prop that puts you near 5800rpm with a normal load.
Of course there are "other" items we can change to optimize the use of either, that's another story..
By the way the 15P is the old style blade design if it's OEM/OMC and the 14X17 has a different design, not just because it's a different pitch-both good props, just use the one that puts you in the rpm range stated above.
