I have a 2006 2.5 HP four stroke Yamaha on a 12 ft Aluminum boat. The problem is it will start right up and go to 1/2 throttle with no problem. When I go from 1/2 to full throttle there is no difference in RPMs. I have checked the throttle on the carb and it is wide open. The motor has about 8 hours on it and the prop is a 3 -7 1/4 X 6-BS is this to much pitch?

Re: 2.5 Yamaha prop problem

More than likely the prop is the right one.The 2.5 is under a heavy challenge
with any boat/load.You could get a tiny tach and check the rpm.
About $40 and simple install. Will work on any 4 stroke single.
just be sure you get all the info regarding your requirements.

Re: 2.5 Yamaha prop problem

Thanks for the reply. I called Yamaha and they recommended the same thing to put a tach on it. I have been around outboards and motors all of my life and I can tell it is working to hard and is not revving up. But Yamaha did recommend a 7/1/4 X 5 it now has a 7/1/4 X 6 so I will see if the new prop works better when I get it.

Re: 2.5 Yamaha prop problem

Prop is probably a good idea but you shouldn't change props without the tach to confirm motor is operating within its rpm range.
