Direction "arrow" not working on motor guide

Does anyone know why the direction arrow on a motor guide trolling motor might not be working, and if so how do I fix this. Thanks in advance!

If you take the top off you will most likely find a stripped plastic gear. It needs to be replaced.

Thank you Bill! I took the cover off and found that the bracket that the plastic gear mounts to was broken. I glued it then put a zip tie around it, it now works. Thanks again for your assistance!
