I just got this 85 Wellcraft w5.7 Merc/alpha 1, a few weeks ago and put the muffs on it and got it started after rebuilt carb, replaced frozen thermostat. It overheated again. When I removed the impeller it was in pieces some were in the lower unit most are not. How do I clean out whatever to ensure that all of the pieces are out of the system ? Can I put a hose somewhere and flush the pieces out? Good news is there are no pieces in the thermostat housing.
This has an open system the raw water impeller is the problem..

If this is posted somewhere else I will apologize in advance. Didn't see it.

Can someone help me ?
Thank you

Ayuh,... With the Lower unit off the drive,...
Put your garden hose into the hose coming From the drive, to the T-Stat housing,+ turn it on....
It's the hose on the lower portside of the housing, behind the V-belt...
The "Junk" is probably trapped in the P/S Cooler, under the motor, In that same hose...
