I am replacing my outboard on my Mako and had some questions about the
new motor I was looking to replace it with. I am looking at a 1996 yamaha s250 outboard this friday. I wanted to know if there is anything out there
I should be aware of to check when looking at this motor like check fluid in lower unit, compression, ect. I plan to start it first off and make sure it
stay running for awhile. If there is anything I should look 4 please send me instructions. Thanks for any help.

Re: 1996 Yamaha Model S250TXRU 250 Outboard

i think that this motor is yamahas first "big block"(3.1 liter). when introduced in 1994 it had 6 carbs, i think 1996 units also had carbs?(some one will correct me if i am not correct) if it is the carb. version, i have seen problums with #5 cylinder running lean if there is any fuel restriction, or if a fuel lift pump gets a hole in the diaphram. the electric "boost pump" for the fuel enrichment system draws from #5 carb. the motor was also a little difficult to sync & linc. so that all the shutters open at the same time. the carbs. went to e.f.i(ox66) in 1997. the lower unit oil should be chk/changed. the compretion should be tested and or leak dn. test. good luck!

I was able to test the outboards and everything was great. One problem, is that the trim motor was rusted out and in to replace the motor but can not find any motor less then 300.00. If any one has a in on parts and would like to share that info please do. I tried ebay but the motor I need is yamaha p/n# 61a-43880-02-00. thanks
