OMC 800 Stringer Ball Gears-What do you think of what's left of mine?

Here's a picture. I don't think they need replacing just yet, but I think I'd better keep an eye on them. Any OMC experts want to chime in an opinion?

Looks like you have more then 1/2 left. I think OMC used to say they were good down to 1/3. What engine? If it's a V-8 it will put more force on them than a 4 cyl. So this could make a difference. like 1/3 for a V-8 vs. less for a 4 banger. And of course a V-6 somewhere in between.

I would say you have several more seasons left in them anyway.

Just make sure the water jet is not plugged and is squirting on them.

I dont profess to be an OMC expert but I did own a 81 Campion with an 800 stringer in it. your ball gears look about the same as mine did and I ran it for 5 years . never did seem to wear any more,I put on about 120 hours per year
