need a new boat trailer winch: how do I know what weight I need?

Hello: Since my winch is totally rusted out, I want to buy a new winch. This is for a 16' bayliner capri, Gross weight 2,200+/- pounds, I think.

I found one that is rated for 1,200 pounds.

Will that work? If not, what weight do I need?

Get the winch set that is equal to or more than your boats weight. Between $69 and $100 for the complete set. Here's an example.
