1991 johnson 30 hp timing.

ok heres my problem i replaced my power pack screws were to long and wasnt alowing timing to advace. replaced the screws with shorter ones now motor wont start without starting fluid and wont idle. how do i adjust the timing? now im replacing the shift linkage under the cowling its not installed right now. would that be the problem? it ideled fine when the screw where holding the timing plate in place. so could anyone help me with seting the timing

I do not believe these motors have a way to adjust timing, they are static. Are you sure everything went back together correctly?
