My 1985 Bayliner crusier project boat is nearly complete except for the outdrive mounting. the out drive was on a pallet with other used motor and wiring parts. There are no identification labels, the local dealer believes it to be a model 280. It has a 1:1.61 gear ratio and the exhaust port is a long, narrow but wide opening. Can someone identify this unit.
What is the difference in the models 270, 275, 280, and 290??
Can I drive a model 275 with a 5.7 V8?
Thanks.

Re: volvo penta identification

The gear ratio is for a V8 engine. Take a picture of the outdrive, and include the H bracket that mounts it on the transom shield, and take a picture of your transom shield.

Go up to the adults only sticky at the top of the forum posts and find the Volvo Information and look at some of the drive manuals.
