where can i find lower unit compatability info?

any help would be much appreciated. I have a 78 70hp L/S and need to replace the lower unit. what will fit it? I saw a list someone had on ebay from this site but I cant find it. Im looking at a 1973 65hp L/S model # 65ESL. Think this will work? I really appreciate any thing you guys can tell me thanks in advance -Mike

Id love to have a list like that.....but if they are out there, the people that have them are keeping them to themselves...

what a lot here have suggested is to go to the BRP site and look up the LU part number for one year and compare it to the other year you have...

if you click on the part number a list of all the motors that part fits comes up...

The '73 65hp will NOT work with your 1978. You need 1976 to 1988. In 1989 they changed the driveshaft to a fine spline at the top, but the rest of the gearcase is compatible if you wanted to swap the shaft out.

Do I need to stay with the lower unit off of a 70hp model or will other models fit? Thanks again for any info. -mike
