This is my first Forum question ever.
I am working on a 1984 90hp Mercury outboard that has three WMK 39 carburetors on it and the #3 bottom carb is bad. I got three WMK 41s off the internet and noticed that the 41s have larger idle holes in them, and they look like they just put out more fuel. I have a .072 main jet to put in them.
My question is can I use the #3 41 and keep the 39s as the top two or will that damage the engine? The top two 39s are in much better shape then the 41s. The #3 39 had salt water in it for over a year and is ruined.

Thanks for your time,

Chuck

I think two things could happen.

1. The bottom two cyls will run rich at WOT, dumping fuel and fouling plugs like mad
2. The top two cyls might lean out and burn up. Your middle's would likely be fine.

I would keep them all the same - and if reusing the original #39 isn't an option, try the #41's all around, keeping a keen eye on plug condition and cylinder health until you know that it'll be ok.

Thanks guys. I am taking your advice and bring the three 41s back to life.

Thanks again,
Chuck
