Proper gas for my new OB

I have just bought my first ever boat and have a new 4 stroke Nissan 6HP engine for it. The Nissan manual recommends using gasoline with no ethanol in it. Where can I get gas without ethanol since automotive filling stations all seem to have 10% ethanol?

TIA,

You don't indicate where you live, but if no stations in your area sell it, then just use E 10, it will work fine.

If you boat someplace that has an on-the-water marina they'll most likely have it. I find it at Citgo but that may vary by region.

Since you don't have a big fuel useage problem with that engine, go to your local small airport and get 100 low lead. Many people around here run that in their small engines to get away from the alcohol.

Federal government pressure will soon see all auto gas contain 10 to 15% alcohol. This tears boats up but the politicians don't give a damn.

Your manual does not say not to use ethanol laced fuel. Your engine is designed to run flawlessly on unleaded fuel with up to 10% alcohol. Don't worry about it. Re-read page 4 of your manual.

I should've looked @ the manual before replying originally - although I'd certainly advocate the use of non-ethanol fuel if you have it availablel, you certainly wouldn't need 100LL. It's over $4 a gallon near me, and that motor was certainly not tested for use with aviation fuel.

Add Seafoam or Stabil Marine fuel stabilizers to your gas all the time to eliminate most fuel related problems. Any 87 octane fuel will work fine. A fuelwater seperator(Walmart $27) installed on your transom would also be a great insurance policy against fuel problems. Learn to drain your carburetor and do it a couple of times per year. Good Luck!

I already have some Seafoam. I will look into a fuelwater separator. Thanks all.

:eek:Sea Foam contains alcohol and would compound the ethanol problem when used as a fuel stabilizer. However, Stabil Marine has no alcohol in it. In my opinion Stabil Marine would be a better choice.

The lead in aviation fuel is worse for the engine than the ethanol. One more time -- we've been using E10 in the midwest since 1997 with no issues other than an some fuel system issues with older engines that would likely have developed fuel system issues anyway. It's just that the ethanol cleaned up the gum and varnish and deposited in the fuel filters and perhaps ate up some rubber parts that weren't designed for it. Stop blaming ethanol for owner neglect.
