Hey Guys,

I need some help from a parts guru.

I have a 1989 Johnson GT200 J200STLCEB with a bad power pack. OEM part no. is 583476. My friend has a good power pack he said I could have from a 1995 Johnson Oceanrunner 225. OEM part no. 586661. I looked them both up in the Sierra catalog and true enough the 583476 was for 200s and 225s, 1988-1992 and the 586661 is for 200s and 225s, 1993-1999s. Sierra catalog says the 583476 has a 6700 RPM limit. It also has two brown wires that the newer one doesn't have. Are these the only differences? Can I use the newer one on my motor? I would love to be able to since it is free.

Thanks,
Jim

The new one has QuickStart and is paired with a timer base that is meant to be used with QuickStart.

I am not really sure what would happen without the timer base connection to the newer pack.

If it were me, I would spring for the right pack part number, but I would get it from CDI.

Wouldn't that be the same as disconnecting the quickstart? Or does the pack need a signal from it in order to fire?
