So how do i split the upper from the lower on my stern drive if the pin is stuck? I can get the front of the case to move but the back has no pry spots and I'm afraid to pound on it too much (with rubber) because of the transome. What can I do?

Thanks, John

Did you remove the bolt under the trim tab?

Don:

The "trim tab" is the fin looking thing on the rear of the upper part of the lower unit, right? According to the service manual, it didn't seem possible to remove that until the unit was split. By the way, this is my first I/O so I have a bit of a leaning curve before I totally understand how it works. Can it be removed before spliting the case?

Thanks for you help,

John

Yes, the trim tab is the fin, and yes it has to come off BEFORE the drive can come apart so you can get to the bolt holding the two halves together can be removed.
Sounds like you have one of those junky Seloc or Clymers books (can't even call them manuals)
Go up to the adults only sticky and download a REAL manual.

I can't tell you which ones, because I have no clue what year yours is.
