Good day, I have this old 6 hp Johnson OB at the cottage and the rig is being shared. I mostly keep the tank filled with a 50:1 mix. 4 days ago someone else used the boat and to be a nice guy filled the tank with gas ... but did not put in any oil. Originaly the tank was at a quarter ... he filled it to 3/4 the tank being a 20 gal I would guess he added 1.5 gallon of fresh gas to a 1 gallon premixed allready in the tank. Yesterday, not being aware I used the rig for approx 2.5 hours trolling most of the time .. with a short 1/4 mile WOT run. The motor still ran great at the end of the day. (then found out the flaw)

What is to be expected in terms of damage ? if any ?

I am assuming you mean a 20 litre tank ??
Good news is there was some oil in the mix and you mostly trolled.
Mix the remaining gas to the correct ratio and then
Do a compression check and see what results you get.

Yes I meant 20 litres ... lol The guy who did the booboo is out there now adding the required quantity of oil to the tank. I told him to run the engine with the new mix in order to have enough oil on internal parts as the motor is permanently on the boat on a dock. As for taking compression I dont have a gauge. Would the fact that the motor pushes the 12 footer with the right power and speed be a sign that compression is ok ?

It is a good sign but there is nothing quite like knowing the facts. It's only a small motor so why don't you take get a compression tester and check it next time at the cottage or take the motor home with you and find someone with a compression tester.

An once of prevention......don't want to sound preachy here but. I have a similar situation with a motor at the lake that several people could fill with fuel. I have clearly marked the mix rate on the tank and the motor so anyone adding fuel cannot be aware of the oil mix. After reading your thread I'm even happier I did it. Best of luck. They are tuff motors and I would bet your going to be fine. Agree the compression check is a good idea at this time. Rick.

I will have the mixing instructions written on the gas tank with a felt pen asap. Tx

May want to keep a jug of TCW-3 next to the tank as well.

put your oil in there and hope for the best,I do know the smaller engines ,including the 9.9 and 15 came with 100-1 oil suggestions from factory on a sticker,so they can tolorate less oil,the fact you have no issues at present is good and I truly believe you dodged any disaster,Just add the oil now,I would add the pint to 6 gallons and forget about any over oiling at this point for that tank of gas.
