If you mean gas is leaking out the top of the carb then either the float is not adjusted correctly or more likely the seat is shot and the carb needs to be rebuilt. You should get a carb kit if you are going to take it apart. Some kits come with instructions and some a service manual will walk you through. Looks like the carb kit you need is FK10103-2 and costs about $53. Inlet needle and seat is FK10107and cost about $12 dollars. You can see if mercury has one but I doubt it.
