Merc trim

I have a 2005 50ELPTO on my boat and when I was putting it on the trailer at a shallow launch this evening I trimmed the motor up so that I would not get any prop scrape and gave it some power to get it up further on the trailer and the motor automatically trimmed itself down lower. Is this a safety feature? I have a manual on order that may tell me this but I just ordered it this evening.

Thanks!

Re: Merc trim

Answer to my question reads as:

When operating your boat in shallow water, you can tilt the outboard beyond the maximum trim range to prevent hitting bottom.

Operate the engine at slow speed only. If the engine speed exceeds 2000 RPM, the outboard will automatically return down to the maximum trim range.
