when running there is not very much water coming out of the tell tale. the impeler has been replaced and all passages have been gone throught to check for blockage water tube and gromate are not leaking near motor . the tell tale hole is rather large and wondering if this model pees a heavy stream upon taking a part i noticed there is a w shaped patern under a plate where the water and exhaust come togeather all is clean. have checked all passages in motor and all is clear. motor is submerged deep enough in water also. any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

If you are talking about the water coming out of the tube in the rear of the engine that is about 7/16" that is the idle relief. It only has a mist or light spray coming out of it. The tell tale is on the side of the lowerunit mid section by the nuts that hold the powerhead on. It is about an 1/16" to a 1/8" hole.

Another option, there is a plug on top of the powerhead that you can remove and put a standard 1/4" brass fitting into to re-route the outgoing cooling water.

Also, check the water tube as it comes from the lower unit to the midsection housing. Sometimes the rubber seals get brittle and let too much water slip through

Another check is to make sure that the water tube is getting properly seated into the impeller housing. It is easy for the water tube to move to the side and not get attached when you are putting the lower unit back on.

Feel the exhaust manifold cover while the motor's running and if it's cool or just lukewarm, you've got plenty of water circulating thru the powerhead.

If it's very very warm or hot, there are still issues needing checked. As the OP said, you don't get a ton of spray out the exhaust relief, at least at idle.

You may get a bit more underway, however the bulk of water discharge will go down the 'leg' and out the prop where you won't see it.
