:confused:I have a 1993 Mariner 40hp Magnum 4 Cylinder 2 Stroke Motor, Serial # 0D236658 (Not sure if it?s a Zero or an O at the beginning). Last year my son ran diesel through it.

The engine was flushed and the carbs rebuilt. New NGK Plugs a few times and have replaced the diaphragms in the fuel pump. The engine run excellent once started but is difficult to start. If I squirt some Seafoam into the carbs and throttle it up full it will eventually start.

It runs, ideals and throttles up and down great once running, but is a chore to get it started.

Should I be using Champions vice NGK or am just I missing anything?

Hi,

Is the choke system working?
Do you use the cold start lever to advance the throttle.

Thanks Corm

It does not have a cold start lever. There is a button in the centre of the the pivot point you push to use the throttle while in Neutral. I believe the choke works fine, it's almost like it starving for gas. Maybe a hose issue, but the hose is only aboyt 4 years old.

Hi,

I have the same box. lever/arm they are the same to me. It is a little perplexing because that engine is a good starter. I would check the throttle pickup timing. There may be a sticker on the engine with the data needed.
Check to see that both butterflies open at the same time.
I would try enriching the idle needles an 1/8 to 1/4 turn.
Which plug are you using?
Other than these things I am at a loss. A little throttle and choke these engines start.

HI,

I was thinking that you may have a leaking intake port gasket.
They are on the starboard side of the engine.
I was wondering which NGK you were using. I am not
to concerned about what brand is use, just the numbers and letters.
I use both brands myself.
