i have an old 40 seahorse johnson....i had it out 2 weeks ago for the firsttime this year and it ran fine except the key would not start the engine so i had to pull start it, butit ran fine. 2 weeks later my friend took it out and added 350ml of oil to 10 litres of gas.(wrong mix) not sureif this could be the reason. but he he couldn't get it to start. now i tryto pull start it and it started twice in about 40 tries but stalled after about 2 seconds, but it turns over every try. any suggestions?

Did you drain the carb and put the proper mixture in? What year are we talking about?

pretty sure it's 1965 40 seahorse johnson, I forgot to mention that when i pump the primer, fuel spills out of the carb and the primer bulb does not get hard..i dont remember if it did when i took it out a couple weeks ago. when i get home i will drain it and add new fuel.

You have a faulty needle, and seat in the carb, and simply flooding the engine.

you may want to check the float in the carb I had a prob like that and it was the float had a crack in it and it's hard to get it to float when it is full of fuel lol good luck with the 40 hp I have the same motor on my boat

Bad needle and seat or float dosen't float anymore.

Rebuild carb with new float.

Problem solved.
