L/U leaking, pulled the bearing carrier to check the seals but the propshaft and the floating brass O rings will not come out. There is a metal oring with two ears on it that doesn't seem to want to budge. Any suggestions? The seal on the front of the bearing carrier seemed fine, just loose as it should be. Cant find the source of the leaking yet. Help. TIA.

If I am reading this right, there are two snap rings that must be removed. Use heavy duty transmission snap ring pliers to do it.

if you are just changing seals, there is no need to disassemble any further.

yes the seals are in the outside of the bearing carrier..leave the rest of it alone..you can also change your drive shaft seal without taking the gearcase apart..you can submerge your gearcase and look for bubbles to check for leaks after you get it all together again..but I would flush it good with some 30 weight oil..then drain it good and refill with marine gearcase oil and I would run it about 10 hours then change it again with fresh oil..I like the synthetic blend.
