Hi
I have twin 2000 225HP Johnsons and the tilt will not go all the way up on one of the motors.

I works fine to trim and the tilt work like it should except it cuts off just shy of going all the way up so I can engage the trail lock lever. If it weren't for the inability to lower the support lever I wouldn't know anything was wrong and the distance it is shy of full tilt is about 1/2".

Occasionally when I keep pressing the up switch either on the motor or shift lever it will bump up the final 1/2".

Any ideas??

Thanks

have you checked to see if the unit is full of fluid? That is the only thought I can come up with right now if it works at all other levels except for the higher level needed to engage trail lock...

Does not sound like it is electrical since it does the same with both switches and at the same point...

Another thought, the main tilt hydro ram is not bent at the base of the rod is it? That would cause the hand up at exactly the same stop everytime.

When it stops, but you are still on the switch, do you still hear the hydro motor running, or does the hydro motor stop at the point stopping movement???

Thanks,

I am not where the boat is right now, so I can't check the fluid. I assume you check it by removing the allen screws on each side of the tilt ram.

No, the motor does not run when the up switch is pushed. It is as it has reached its normal limit

agree sounds like limit switch, but could still be fluid.

Trim & Tilt

With someone?s help push the up button, and someone help the motor go all the way up. Lock motor in that position, now fill reservoir, replace cap. Unlock and bush button to lower motor. Keep repeating until it does not take fluid. The unit should operate now. Dextron II or power steering fluid.

Thanks,

I hate to show my ignorance but:
1. Where is the fluid fill on the pump.
2. What is the plastic cap with the center screw?
3. Where is the limit switch?

Thanks!!

Fluid fill cap should be on resevoir on starboard side of motor. Motor must be tilted up to access it. Trim limit switch is on port side of tilt tube. An owners manual or service manual will help you pinpoint it.
