no spark

i have a 87 thunderbolt 4 merc alpha 1 230 v8. it cranks great but no spark at the plugs it has a new dist and wires. it runs great when it starts. now it wont fire at all where should i start is there a kill swich i should know about?

the first thing to check is the shift interrupt switch.
i have had 2 of these fail on 2 different boats. one failed in the closed position and did as your are describing.

the other failed open and wouldn't allow a proper shift.

ok where would it be i don't have a book for this boat. i can't find the kill swich either

another free and easy check is to remove the gray tach wire its what happened to me the tach was DOA

Ayuh,... There's copies of "The Book" up in the Adults Only section at the top of this forum....

Odds are, your boat Don't have a Kill Switch either...
