1982 Mercury Won't idle

I have a 1982 Merc 25 HP. I recently did the carbs, compression is good in both cylinders, gas is clean and new filters are installed. When i crank the motor it seems to do jusr fine if I keep it in gear, either reverse or forward, I can have it slightly in gear or reved out and it runs great. As soon as I return to idle whether cold or hot, the engine stalls.

Basically it will not run at idle. I played with the idle adjustment screw and mixture screw a bit, bit I did not get any results from that.

Hi,

i dont know if this will help or not but on my 1975 blueband 65 i had an idle problem. it would run fine at high revs but cut out at idle. Turns out the spark was jumping through the ht lead on 1 cyl and shorting of the hinge of the cover. at high revs it would run on the other two cyl and you wouldnt know untill idle it would cut out.

Also, I have installed new Boysen reeds, which actually has made it run better in gear, just not idle.
